Hello
I'm Abby Lynch - a licensed speech language pathologist on my 12th professional year in the field, proud mom to two rambunctious preschoolers, and passionate play advocate. I started Play More | Tech Less to document my family's own journey toward healthy tech habits and to encourage others to join a movement toward more play in a technology filled society.
My Story
I suppose you could say I've always been conscious about technology and screen time exposure, especially when it comes to my kids. However, we by no means live in a "screen-free" home and have already had our fair share of screen-time challenges...and our kids are preschoolers. Yikes. Unsurprisingly, things really came to a head during the height of the pandemic. An already technology-focused society became instantly on tech-hyperdrive. EVERYTHING was happening behind the screen - there was no other option.

So, I started being more intentional about noticing my kids' relationship with technology and then we slowly began to make some shifts in not only the amount of tech-time they engaged in but in the type of play experiences we created. It wasn't long before
I realized that it was actually all about the play. As I began announcing, joining, and preparing my kids for "play time" more regularly and with a greater variety of experiences, the play time naturally began to replace the tech-time. That was when I had my "Ah-ha" moment and had an overnight drive to create my instagram page.
I hope you find my page welcoming and supportive to your own journey to Play More and Tech Less. I'm truly glad you are here and intend for this to be a supportive community. It can be difficult to look around a room and see everyone, children included, on personal technology and still continue to make healthy tech choices. Just like any other healthy habit, it's easier to do when you have someone doing it with you. I hope I can be that person. We can do this.
Now, let's go fly a kite.
- Abby
